Germany update

Today I introduced a German family to the wonders of macaroni and cheese with bacon.  A fair trade – Germany introduced me today to the wonders of a German bakery – the one right down from where we’ll be living.  I keep getting just struck by the beauty of the brickwork, the wooden doors, the old German churches.  For some strange reason, we’ve been in a lot of German churches lately.  Well, about ten.  Supposedly, there aren’t as many people in German churches these days.  The daily masses we’ve been to so far have had about as many people there as at St. Gabe’s, if not a few more.

We also enrolled mein kleine Chelsea into school today, and she’ll start tomorrow.  Usually, she’ll take the bus, but there is a bus strike tomorrow, so we’ll take her to school along with two out of the three kids we’re staying with, especially since one goes to Chels’ school.  Very nice principal there, and the teacher looks like he has a sense of humor.  The dress code is actually enforced there, the kids respect the principal, and (sit down, teachers), the principal still teaches a class on a daily basis.  Interestingly enough, she’ll have to downplay the Catholic T shirts, or at least the Lifeteen ones for a bit.  Still trying to figure out what is going on there, but a bit of a culture clash at a minimum seems to be the case.  We’re hoping that showing that we both respect and want to live into the German culture will help.

Meanwhile, we’ll continue settling in, perfecting the language (or learning it!), and taking one day at a time.  By the way, there are some quickie Facebook updates I’m doing also

Have Fun with God

Then I decided to spend my time having fun because I felt that there was nothing better in all the earth than that a man should eat, drink, and be merry, with the hope that this happiness would stick with him in all the hard work that God gives to mankind everywhere.
