9/23 and 10/12

9/23/11 – a bit of a potpourri..followed up 10/11/11

Sainthood means faithfully doing what has to be done”

(I think from Blessed Mother Teresa via The Domestic Church)

The above has resulted in some pondering regarding the mixture of my family and missionary roles, missions, etc. It is not easy feeling like you really want to be in two places at once. The past few weeks, trying to reconcile Mom and Missionary has almost been like a teeter-totter’s middle at the playground. You know, you’re in the middle, the see-saw is in the air, perfectly balanced…and then you need to move a step in one direction…so the see saw is unbalanced, and you try to scurry back to get it in balance, and over-balance, and so on til you’re worn out just trying to get the doggone thing still so you can have a foot on either side.

Yeah, you think that’s confusing to follow – try living it. I’ve decided – with both family and missionary backing – to continue making family and home my primary vocation, and missionary sort of through that. I’m a fairly decent wife and mother, and a reasonably good home-maker. Cooking is covered, cleaning is a work in progress. I can do that. I am the only one who can be Mama. I’ve realized that when my primary vocation is not being tended to properly, it is not good for my soul, incredibly lousy for my peace of mind and sense of self, and is not good for our family. Especially not for my little Chels-Chels, who is still coming to terms with the radical new direction her life has taken. She’s doing well, but needs extra Mom time..with a sane, serene Mommy…and she deserves it.

Cool saying in a priest’s homily (and a digression). Thanks, Fr. Jose

God accepts me. God doesn’t always accept what I do, but He always accepts me.”

We bring all of us to God. If He has called us, He gets the whole ball of wax – the good, the bad, and the ugly – but He wants it that way. Something that we may see as a major failing or cross to bear may be just what God needs in a situation.

Have Fun with God

Then I decided to spend my time having fun because I felt that there was nothing better in all the earth than that a man should eat, drink, and be merry, with the hope that this happiness would stick with him in all the hard work that God gives to mankind everywhere.
